Cadmium tungstate (CdWO4 or CWO) is a monoclinic crystal with a wolframite structure and has good comprehensive scintillation properties. The peak scintillation wavelength of CdWO4 crystal is 480 nm (with emission range between 380-660 nm), and the efficiency is 13000 photons/MeV, when it is hit by gamma rays and x-rays. Because of high luminous efficiency, short afterglow time, large X-ray absorption coefficient, strong resistance to radiation damage, and high material density, CdWO4 crystal is widely used in nuclear inspection, γ camera, X-CT, High energy physics, and container inspection, etc. The combined application of CdWO4 crystal and B4C can form a compact gamma-ray and neutron radiation detector. At the same time, CdWO4 crystals can be used to detect rare nuclear processes, such as double β decay, other rare α, and β decay.
